A bandage is a band of material that is designed to absorb moisture and provide protection against infection. The absorbent properties are used to prevent the growth of bacteria or viral organisms. Most bandages are open-custodied, which means that they allow air and moist to pass through. The bandage prevents contamination of wounds by preventing substances such as blood from mixing with bodily fluids. The absorbent material is also used to stop the flow of blood to a wound. Bandages, therefore, allow for proper healing. The benefits of using short and long bandage length are obvious. Short bandage length provides immediate relief, while long bandages allow for longer-term relief in cases where the injury is not that severe.
