Bioplastics Could Be the Next Packaging Solution As It Can Biodegrade in Different Environments

Image
Bioplastics are derived from renewable biomass sources, such as sugarcane, corn starch, straw, vegetable oils and fats, recycled food waste, sawdust, woodchips, etc. Biodegradable plastics are a kind of plastic that decomposes naturally in the environment. Bioplastic can also be produced from used plastics and agricultural by-products. Bioplastic has made considerable progress in its development and now has a wide range of useful packaging materials that are being used for various purposes. The packaging methods make it feasible for the industry to process a larger amount of waste at a low unit labor cost. Starch-based films are derived from starch blended with thermoplastic polyesters to produce compostable and biodegradable products. These films are widely used in consumer goods packaging, while in food packaging, starch-based films are seen as bakery or fruit and vegetable bags. Both conventional plastics and bioplastics , which contain additives, are biodegradable. Bioplastics can ...
