Hydrazine hydrate: A Prominent Lubricant in Several Industries

Hydrazine hydrate, also known as hyrazinium hydroxide, is an inorganic compound that contains a hydrazine. A number of different uses can be attributed to these chemicals including but not limited to: water purification, fire retardant, disinfection and as a lubricant for moving parts. They have also been used as a chemical warfare agent. It is used in the electronics sector in manufacturing TVs and radios. It is also used as pesticide in the agriculture sector. Acidified hyrazinium hydroxide is used to remediate Cr(VI)-contaminated soil. The United States Air Force (USAF) regularly uses H-70, a 70% hydrazine 30% water mixture, in operations employing the General Dynamics F-16 “Fighting Falcon” fighter aircraft and the Lockheed U-2 “Dragon Lady.
