Demand for Sustainable LED Lighting Increases in Order to Achieve Energy Sustainability Targets

An LED lamp or light bulb is a light-emitting diode (LED) lamps for general use in lighting fixtures that generates light using one or more LEDs. LED lights are very efficient and produce more light for less energy than conventional bulbs. The benefits of using an LED lamp extend well beyond just saving money on utility costs. LED lamps are environmentally friendly, which means they do not produce harmful toxins. It has been found that LEDs are about 100 times more efficient than fluorescent lights when it comes to producing light.

There are different types of led lighting such as red, green, and blue. These colors combine to form the primary colors. The other types are red, amber, and phosphor blue. The blue phosphor types use a special type of semiconductor called "red phosphor." When a lamp is using more than one color of LED, it is called multi-color lighting or multicolored LED. In addition, there are two forms of these types of lights - diode and plated. Diode lights can be either active or passive. A diode, which has an electrical current flowing through it, will change color in response to a small voltage change. A lamp with diode lighting uses a tiny current, which is not large enough to heat up the diode and can be very easily installed. However, a lamp with diode lighting requires more power, which means it is more expensive to buy and install. Plated or fluorescent lights work by emitting light from the filament or the wick itself. Plated bulbs are easier to install because they are more secure than a diode light and provide a brighter light.

Sustainable LED lamps can aid to achieve energy sustainability target, which has led to their increasing adoption in various countries. For instance, in November 2020, Deutsche Bahn AG, a German railway company, announced to convert all lighting systems to sustainable LED lamps as part of its efforts to achieve its 2050 sustainability target. In the U.S., the demand for LED lighting has increased due to surge in the number of turnkey LED lighting and controls retrofit projects. For instance, in October 2020 Orion Energy Systems, Inc., a U.S.-based LED lighting and intelligent controls enterprise, secured new contract extensions of approximately US$ 41 million for the retrofit of 295 additional locations, representing the next phase of a turnkey LED lighting and controls retrofit project for an existing large national retail customer.
