Global Offshore Wind Capacity Is Estimated To Surge Over 234 GW By 2030

Wind energy or wind power both describe the process by which the wind is used to generate electricity. Offshore wind energy or offshore wind power is the use of wind farms built into the water bodies, usually in the ocean, to harvest wind energy to generate electricity. Offshore wind energy offers various benefits such as the energy is generated at higher speed on the offshore than on the onshore. Installation of offshore wind energy technologies is gaining significant acceptance worldwide due to its high-power generation capabilities. Global offshore wind capacity is estimated to surge to over 234 GW by 2030 from 29.1 GW at the end of 2019.

The United States has an extensive offshore wind energy resource available for utilization. Sides of the Atlantic Ocean are perfect locations for offshore wind farms, as these shores have a tremendous power potential of over 2,500 GW. Around 20 to 30 GW offshore wind capacity is expected to be operational in the United States by 2030. A 450 MW offshore wind farm is set to be built in the Adriatic Sea in northern Italy. Moreover, the Italian energy company has submitted an application to the Italian government for a 30-year concession in the region of Italy's Adriatic Sea, where it plans to build a 330 MW offshore wind farm.

Furthermore, the Asia-Pacific offshore wind academy is set to be built in Singapore, which will provide educational services for the offshore wind industry in the region. With the recent developments in turbine technology, offshore wind farms now generate electricity at a higher level of efficiency. Moreover, offshore wind resources are stronger during the day, allowing for more efficient and stable production of energy when electricity demand is at its peak, while most onshore wind resources are stronger at night when consumer demand is low. However, offshore wind farms can be expensive and difficult to build and maintain.
