New Scoring System for Assessing Medical Device Vulnerabilities to Boost Adoption of Anesthesia Devices
Anesthesia device or an anesthesiologist machine is a mechanical device used for the purpose of creating and mixing a new drug infusion of inhalation and oral anesthetic drugs for the purpose of causing and sustaining anesthesia. These equipment are used in various forms of medical treatment to render immediate, complete, and deep anesthetics. The most common types of anesthesia machines used by anesthesiologists are the Intravenous line and the Oral Anesthetic Line.
Oral anesthetics are given intravenously to reduce pain and provide instant and complete sedation. A physician injects the anesthetic drugs into the blood stream through an intravenous line. This type of sedation causes the muscles of the oral cavity to relax; thus reducing pain sensation and muscle spasms. The needles of the needleless oral sedation machine are very small and they are placed on the tip of the tongue to minimize the amount of pain felt in the mouth.
The intravenous line is used for the administration of the intravenous anesthetics and it delivers an anesthetic to the whole body by delivering a steady drip of an anesthetic agent through the vein. This line has a flexible tube where the agent is delivered, and the patient lies down with his head and spine supported by splints. The length of the anesthetic infusion is short, as the tube is inserted in small amounts into the vein and is left to dissolve. The Intravenous line can also be used in combination with the Intra-arterial line for administering the oral sedation. In this case, a flexible tube is used that delivers the drug directly to the brain in the vein.
The intra-arterial line is used in combination with the oral sedation machine. The Intra-arterial line is inserted into a vein in the arm or leg and then is connected to the computerized system for analyzing and monitoring the dose level of the drug. This line of intravenous anesthetic is made up of flexible tubes that are filled with the drug. The end of the line of tubing is attached to a monitoring device that gives an instant and immediate signal of when the dose level of the drug reaches the appropriate level to cause unconsciousness.
Anesthesia devices includes the cannula and suction, which are two important pieces of equipment used to anaesthetize the body, the chest and abdomen. The cannula is a curved piece of equipment that have a tube that is inserted in a vein, and this is placed at the spot of an object to be anaesthetized. Another equipment is the vacuum that forces the air out of the cannula and suction. There are many types of anesthesia machines that are used for the administration of anesthesia, and they vary according to the type of medication that is to be administered and the procedure being performed.
There are several challenges in the use of anesthesia devices, which include the ability to manipulate an anesthesia machine. To address this, in October 2020, the United States Food and Drug Administration unveiled a new scoring system for assessing medical device vulnerabilities, an update from its previous system that was initially designed for commercial devices and did not account for patient safety. The previous scoring tool did not account for certain actions, including malware injection.
