Immunomodulating Therapy Plays a Major Role in Hemophilia Treatment
Hemophilia is a medical condition in which the ability of the blood to clot is severely reduced, causing the sufferer to bleed severely from even a slight injury. This condition is very painful. The blood does not clot normally in the veins and this is what makes this condition so painful.
There are three main types of hemophilia. Thrombophilia type I is where the bleeding is caused by the failure of the Thrombin protein. In thrombophilia type II, the failure of the Thrombin protein is caused by the co-factor factor VIII which does not work properly. In thrombophilia type III, the disorder is caused by the co-factor factor IX that is not working properly.
The most effective hemophilia treatment is to replace or otherwise replenish the clotting factors in the affected veins so that the blood clots properly. This is usually done by injection of special clotting factors, known as thrombectomy factor vii, into an individual's blood vessel. Thrombectomy prevents blood clots from breaking free in the affected areas and stopping the bleeding.
There are many ways to prevent bleeding with hemophilia. One of the first ways is to control the diet. Certain foods can cause a significant increase in blood pressure, which is known to cause bleeding. Eating healthy is the most important way to stop bleeding with hemophilia. This will keep your clotting factors working properly and keep you from getting an increased risk of hemorrhage. Another way to stop bleeding episodes with hemophilia is by using the clotting factors. Compounding agents such as factor X can be used to reduce the bleeding episodes. The use of steroids is also a way of treating the condition. All of these clotting factors concentrates on one primary goal, which is keeping the bleeding under control.
A new breakthrough in hemophilia treatment is called immunomodulating therapy. This new treatment focuses on increasing the strength of the immune system so it is better able to fight off the antibodies that cause the bleeding. This new therapy helps to eliminate the need for anticoagulants such as warfarin. This also helps to improve the patient's quality of life by reducing the number of allergic attacks and their severity.
